Sno-Hawk Calendar of Events
& Newsletter April 2nd 2010 meeting at 8:00PM - Blue Moose (formally Rubys) - SCHOLARSHIP ESSAYS TO READ BY STUDENTS What a season. We’re not use to this. Maybe we’ll have a run of some good seasons? This will be the last letter of the season. Last letter I thanked the members, this letter I’d like to take the time to THANK the Groomer guys and the Trailheads. I’m hoping you’ve been able to get out and pull your signs. Overall I thought the trails were marked pretty good, a few sections could use a few more blazers and the corners made wider for the groomer. If you’ve been on our trails, you’ll see what I mean. I noticed that the laminated little maps we put up faded so bad that you could not make out what was on them. No need to put these up if this is the case. Maybe we can try the bigger maps that we’ve had in the past? I’m hoping that you will all be doing your sections again, if not please, let us know ahead of time so we can try to find a replacement for you. When you are in need of signs, post, gates, ribbon, nuts & bolts, let me know, we can always get more supplies as needed. We want to make sure our trails are marked good to find our way and for safety. Also if you ever lose or gain a Landowner, please let me know so I can keep our list updated. As for the Groomer guys, it sounded like you did a good job keeping the trails groomed. We had a lot of compliments. THANKS again for all that you guys do!!! At our March meeting we had a balance of $3,377.00
in our checking. Ronnie Seibel gave his report on the CVSO. At the
Sno-Hawk’s meeting we had reports on a savings of $500.00 doing the
Landowners gifts different this year. We talked about having an "End of the
year" bowling party. With a show of hands we will again be doing this. I
have reserved Friday, April 16th at 8:00 PM at the Bloomer Bowl. Members
will pay for their games ($2.50 per game, shoes, no charge) plus $5.00 per
person (adults) towards the food and drinks. They would like us to call with
a count of people attending. You do not have to bowl, but still come and
enjoy the camaraderie and watch the rest of us try to bowl. So please call
with a count of people attending. If anyone has any ideas as different ways
of bowling, give us your ideas. In the past we’ve tried to bowl with the
opposite hand. There were comments on our Hayward trip. We will look into
this again next year. We received our Tax Exempt status from the IRS. At
this April meeting the students that have applied for a Sno-Hawk’s
Scholarships will need to read their essay at this meeting. At this time
there is only 3 applicants. If anyone would be interested in handing these
out at the Banquet May 26th at the High School, just give me a call. At this
time for the April agenda, will be the Scholarships and reminders of the
Fest sign up. The winner of the March door prize was Dave Reischel. I’m
thinking that the Easter Bunny may have something to do with the April
prize!!! I also was ask to put in our letter if there is an interest for
people with 4-wheelers to have or join a 4-wheeler club and to try to get
more trails in the county. If so, please call Doug Johnson at 237- 2613. So
until next season, have a great and safe summer and THANKS again for being a
Sno-Hawk. MARCH NEWSLETTER Being we are getting so close to the end of the season, I’d like to take this time to thank everyone for joining our club. We did very well with getting 99 members. I’m hoping that this will put us in the "number one" spot again for the county. Plus, I’d like to thank everyone that helped in any way over the last year. There is a lot of things that go on behind the scenes. We would not have the club we have if it was not for all of you! It’s looking like one of our best snowmobile season in awhile. Hope you were able to enjoy the trails. Just to let the Groomer guys know that we’ve been getting compliments on how good the trails have been in our area. Good job guys!!!! I noticed some sections need to be marked a little better. Overall I thought things were pretty good. At our February meeting we had a balance of $4,317.00 in our checking. Ronnie Seibel gave his report on the CVSO. They are still looking for a secretary. At our meeting we discussed next years Christmas party. It was agreed to book it again at the White Pines. I have got the date of Saturday, January 15th 2011. It was brought up to send up to two couples to the AWSC Convention in Appleton March 12th - 14th. If you are interested, let me know as to get the info to you and sent in. The weekly rides have been going OK. Been getting a few each week. We had our election of officers. There were no other nominations and the current officers were willing to hold office for another term. These being Robert LaGesse, President, Rhon Omtvedt, Vice President, and Brenna LaGesse, Secretary/Treasure. Thanks to them all. We finally were able to have our "on the trail" weiner roast. It went very well with about 40 people showing up. Most of these were members. We had other snowmobilers stop that were from Wheeler, Elk Mound. Menomonie, & Bloomer. Thanks to Sonny Urben for the use of his property and wood for the fire and Price Rite for donating the weiners, People State Bank for the cups and napkins, Mike Johnson for use of his cooler & heater, Ronnie Seibel getting us a tent to use, and to Deb Rosenbrook, Michelle Crooker, Patti LaGesse, & Brenna LaGesse help watch over things. Hope we can do this again next year. A good time was had by all that went on our club trip up to Hayward. We had a total of about 20 sleds going. A few rode their sleds from Bloomer. At first it wasn’t looking good as two had engine problems just out of Bloomer and New Auburn. All I can say is that Security still likes the Bloomer bunch, and the Cherry Bombs were great!!! Thanks Michelle & Jeanie. Thanks to Jason & Bill for taking the lead on the trails. Do not ask Robert to lead anywhere, he will for sure take the wrong turn!!! We will try to get some pictures on the web site. If anyone has pictures that you would like on the web site, get them to me. Congratulation to Bob Latour for winning the February door prize. For our March door prize we will be doing a Photo Follie. For the March meeting we will be discussion/reminders on end of the year bowling party, scholarship, (Anyone want to hand these out? May 26th.) Country Fest (Sunday night late shift) Rock Fest, (Most shifts) & miscellaneous. Thanks also to the members that helped out with this. The club trip to Hayward Feb.19th-20th has 3 rooms left. If you have any questions, call. You need to reserve your room yourself. We had a very good turn out at our Christmas party with about 122 attending. About half were members and the other half were Landowners. A great meal was had by all and everyone was lucky enough to receive a Door Prize. With help from our special guest Miss Snowflake, Clarissa Justmann helping hand them out. Earlier in the day, Miss Snowflake, her parents and I were able to ride some of the trails in the area. Thanks to the groomer crew as they made sure the section we rode was freshly groomed. We are still going to try to fit in the on the trail weiner roast yet. We’re looking for some type of tent for shelter. If you have one, please let me know. We will be handing out the gift packages to the Landowners that were not at the Christmas party. I’ll be giving the Trailheads a call when they are ready. At this time we have 98 members. Hope Mother Nature will cooperate so we’ll be able to get everything mark. We are still looking for someone for a section West of Bloomer to Trout Creek. It was voted to invite Miss Snowflake to the Christmas party. She is going to be in Rice Lake this weekend and will try to make it. Bloomer Inn has offered her a room at no charge for a one night stay. The club trip planned for Feb. 19th - 20th to Hayward has 6 rooms booked so far. If you need info on this please give me a call. (568-2570) As soon as the trails open we will try to get in our weiner roast on the trail. I have had a few people volunteer to help out with this. Hope we get to try it this year. We have sent in for Tax Exempt, thanks to the help of member Cory Wiese. There was talk about some sort of fun run and poker run. We will look into this for a later date. We had discussion about having weekly rides. Chris Johnson stepped forward to organize this. When the trails open we will meet every Sunday at the Bloomer Pines parking lot at 11:00 AM. List of the dates and destination are listed below. I’ll also see if Brenda can put this on the website. Lumber was needed to fix a bridge on the Leaker Trail. Dec. 2009 Newsletter Dec.4th Meeting at 8:00 PM at The Bloomer House Hoping that everyone had something to be Thankful for on Thanksgiving. If you were like me you ate too much. But isn’t that what you’re suppose to do. Kind of like hibernation. It is that time of year. Well, it’s starting to feel more and more like winter. Before you know it, it will be making ice and starting to snow. The geese are headed south and sleds are coming out of storage. Farmers are finally being able to get at the soybeans and corn. Hopefully in time for the trailheads to be able to get their section signed before it freezes too hard. Speaking of the trails, the Bloomer Club will be receiving a new groomer to run. I have gotten a call from the Head Groomer and he stated that this new groomer will be about three feet higher then the old one. So he is asking the people that maintain trails going through woods to MAKE SURE TO TRIM the trees as to not be hitting the groomer and breaking something. This has happened in the past. We have a pruner & chainsaw if you need them. With a little bit of work we can make it nice for everyone. If there is a few of you that would like to get together with the brush hog and go through our areas and brush the trails, that would be super. We are looking for someone to take care of a section of trail that goes from West of Bloomer to Trout Creek. At our Nov. Meeting we had 24 members present. Our balance in the checking was $6,598.00. Pete gave his report on the CVSO. Updates were given on the Ice Race. If things go as planned, we will be helping out in different areas plus doing a (radar) fun run. We will be asking for volunteers. The Snowmobile Safety Class will be Dec.17th, 21st, & 22nd from 6:30- 9:00 at the Bloomer Rod & Gun. You need to call the Bloomer Police Department to sign up. If you are a member, the Sno-Hawk’s will pay your dues for the class. Being Jan. 1st is our date for our next monthly meeting, it was voted to change this meeting date to Jan. 8th at 7:30 the same night of our X-mas party at White Pine. IF YOU ARE PLANNING TO ATTEND THIS PARTY, PLEASE CALL 568-2570 with the number attending. Cornell Lake Resort at Cornell Lake was thinking of trying to continue the trail from Morning’s Corner to their resort. If anyone would like to help him with this, that would be great. The old banner was erected up at the North Park. We are waiting to hear from Jan from Brushwork’s to see if he will replace with a new one or repair this one. At this time we are up to 73 members. If you have not paid your dues, please do so now. Your name will be taken off the list if not received by Jan. 1st 2010. There is a notice with this letter to those who have not paid. . Meeting we’ll be discussing Landowner’s gifts to be given to the ones that do not come to the X-mas party. We are thinking to go with ham, cheese, peanuts and chocolate again. If you have any other ideas, let me know. Invite Miss Snowflake to club events. Reminders of the trip up to Hayward Casino Feb.19th & 20th (call 1-800-526-5634 group No. 0212) Reminders of the on the trail weiner roast weather permitting. Please return you money and ticket stubs for the raffle tickets that were handed out, the sooner the better. Congratulations to Darlene Hennemen for winning the Nov. door prize. Any member wearing Christmas season clothing will be in the Dec. drawing. Hope to see you at the meeting and have a Happy Holiday season. Santa’s watching!!!! The idea of having a hayride was brought up with little discussion. It was mentioned to try to do this earlier in the season, so we will again try to remember to do this next Sept.. Someone may need to remind me. No one volunteered to represent our club this year at the AWSC Workshop. Chippewa County map ads for our area were done this year again by me. Days Power Sport may sponsor an ice race in Jan. on the Bloomer lake and has asked us to help with a radar run. Over the next few months we’ll be getting together to see what we need and how many volunteers, if you are interested please call so we can start a list. We are also in need of someone to take a section of trail from Trout Creek to the Leaker Trail. Remember anyone that helps with the trails only pays $10.00 for their membership. We had a very good turn out at the end of the season bowling party in April with about 30 people showing up. June/July had us doing the Country, Rock Fest thing again. Overall things went good. March 2009 Newsletter March 6th meeting 8:00 PM - Larabee’s Lodge. WOW! I’m sure you’ve heard it a thousand times already, but where did the season go? Seems like just yesterday we were signing the trails and getting everything ready. At least we were able to have the trails open for about 6 weeks in the area. Hope you were able to get out and hit the trails. And I’m sure all of the wives and girlfriends got their chocolate and /or flowers from your sweetheart for Valentines Day. Speaking of sweethearts. Congratulations to mine (Patti) for being Honorable Mention for the Foto Follies. At the January meeting we had a balance of 3358.00 in our checking. Bob Latour give the report from the CVSO. The county is talking about having clubs help with First Responders when needed during the snow season and trying to get a website going. At our club meeting, we had totals from the past 5 years for Landowners gifts and parties. We will be getting prices from a number of different businesses for next year’s party. Also we will have further discussion on the gifts. We discussed the NEW classified site on the Sno-Hawk’s website. It was decided to talk things over with our site manager as to what we will allow. The feeling at the meeting was to have snowmobile related items on this site and she also agreed to that. We will let people from other parts of the state put things on this site unless it gets to be too many, then we’ll keep it to the surrounding area. There will be no charge. Being Miss Snow Flake had to cancel from our Christmas party we have asked her to ride the float in the parade and sit at the Bloomer Fair booth which she accepted. Anyone interested in attending the AWSC convention March 27th - 29th, call 568-2570 ASAP. Club will pay for your room, registration and convention meal. (no mileage) We were able to sell all of the raffle tickets. Thanks to everyone that bought or sold these. The Sno-Hawk’s Scholarship applications need to be received from the Sno-Hawk’s and NOT the school. This is for any member’s students, even if they are not from the Bloomer area. You need to be a member to apply and to receive this. As in the past if only one applies they will receive $500.00. If two apply they will each receive $250.00. If more then two apply the Applicants will need to read their essay at the April meeting with a vote taken by the members present. The top two vote getters will each receive $250.00 and the others will each receive $100.00. If you need an application call 568-2570. At this time there have been 4 applications given out. We discussed having a fun night of bowling again in the Spring. I will get more info for the next meeting. Last year the members paid for the bowling and the club paid for the pop, pizza & beer. We may have the members pay towards the food and drinks, that will be decided at the meeting. The "on trail wiener roast" we’ve been trying to have may need to wait for another year. Our banner that we put up at the North Park has cracked. Rhon has taken this back to Brush Works to see what can be done with it. Now I’m asking for some help, PLEASE!!!! There are a few sections of trail that we would like to break up as to not be so much on one person. With a club this size we should be able to cover this. At our March meeting we will be deciding on Landowners gifts, Christmas party for next year, bowling party and other misc. items. At this time all I can say is thing Spring. Forget about the 6 inches of snow we got this past week!!!!!! Hope to see you at the meeting. Robert Anyone wearing green at the meeting for St. Patrick’s Day will be in the door prize drawing. P.S. Congratulations to Bob & Jean Latour for winning all the past meeting door prizes. Good luck to the rest of you. February 2009 Newsletter Friday, February 6th 8:00PM meeting at Trout Creek in the Grain Bin (shed) Before I get too far into this letter, I’d like to congratulate Rick Seibel & Rhon Omtvedt for being in the Wisconsin Snowmobile magazine for the Foto Follies. Well, so starts another year. I’m sure by this time we have all broken our New Year’s resolutions. Maybe next year? Nah!!! At the time of writing this letter the trails in Chippewa County have been open for a few weeks now. Had some trouble with the groomer. But thanks to the dedicated work from the groomer crew they got it up and running. Hope they won’t have too much trouble the rest of the season. The trails I’ve been on could have more snow. For one thing it doesn’t need to be so cold. While you’re on the trails, please be careful so we can all enjoy the next ride. If you feel a section needs some more signage, please let someone know so this can be looked into. We need to remember the visiting snowmobilers so they can find their way. It’s not too much fun when your running low on gas and have no idea as to where you’re at. I’ll be trying to get signs to mark each road we cross and a "you are here" maps for each trail intersection. And check to make sure we have the intersections marked with the right number. If not for this year, for sure next year. We had a very good turnout at our Christmas/Appreciation party with 115 Members/Landowners attending. We all enjoyed a great meal and drinks and lots of door prizes. A BIG thanks to the area businesses that gave to this. From this party we were able to make a money and food donation to the Bloomer Food Pantry. At our January meeting we had a balance of $5,401 in the checking. Dean Rosenbrook gave his report on the CVSO. They are kicking around the idea as to purchase some type of brush cutter for the clubs to use for their trails and are also looking for a secretary. We mainly just had alot of reminders at our Sno-Hawk’s meeting. One being the 50/50 raffle tickets that where handed out a few months ago. I’d like to see these stubs with the money start coming back to me. We need to get these back to the AWSC office by the end of February and that will be here before you know it. Let’s try to sell/buy them all. This will give the club $500.00 if we do so. The convention is March 27th - 29th in Wisconsin Dells, we will again send a couple to attend this, so if you are interested give me a call. We were the only club from the county that had members at the Workshop. Our County Director was there also. The club sponsored a ride to Rock Lake for pop and pizza. This was a good experience for the students that are just starting out. We will again be offering the Sno-Hawk’s Scholarship to graduating students of a Sno-Hawk member. You need to be a member to apply and receive. If you need an application, give me a call and I’ll send one to you. These will be read at the April meeting by the applicants. I’ll have more info in the next newsletter. Country Fest sign up sheets are now full. I can take your name in case someone backs out. Rock is pretty much open, but don’t wait. We are planning an on the trail wiener roast. This will be a weather/trail permitting type thing. This will be an invite for passing snowmobilers to stop for a break and visit around a campfire and enjoy hot dogs, marshmallows etc.. We are now at 91 members. Thanks everyone. Again if you would like to receive your newsletter by way of E-mail let us know at harleycat@bloomer.net Also if anybody has any pictures for our website, this would be great as to get some fresh new shots on. At the February meeting we will be having updates on club business, bowling party, and next years Christmas party. Should be a short meeting. Thanks to Rick Seibel and Ben Rubenzer for taking over a section of trail and to Greg Rubenzer for his money donation to the club. Everyone attending the meeting on a snowmobile will be in a drawing for a prize. Don’t forget your raffle tickets. Also, if you have something to sell, we have a classified site on the Sno-Hawk’s website. Hope to see you at
the meeting. Jan. 2009 Newsletter Jan. Meeting Fri. Jan. 2nd 8:00PM at Roadhouse (Sundial) WOW, what a Christmas again this year. I hope that Santa was good to you. I know for a fact that he had another busy year. Just ask the Mrs.. Things so far are looking good for the upcoming snowmobile season. Trails are marked and the groomer is ready to go. Just add snow. Our club did need to reroute a few sections of trail. One being in the Cooks Valley area and the other being the newly funded Leaker Trail coming into the west side of Bloomer. THANKS to all the members that have helped with the trails and for those that will soon be running the groomer. And also a BIG thanks to the Landowners. None of this could be possible without you. At our Dec. Meeting we had a balance of $6,254.00 in our checking. Dean Rosenbrook gave his report on the CVSO. The new maps are here and will be handed out shortly. It was voted for club members to pay $5.00 per person towards the meal at the Christmas party. The Landowners will not pay. Again a reminder this is a Christmas/Appreciation party for the club members and the Landowners put on by the club. Saturday, Jan. 10th, the will be served meal at 8:00PM, tap beer and tap pop to start at 7:00PM. Door prizes to be given out after the meal. We are asking all to bring a non perishable item for the food Pantry. You need to RSVP as soon as possible so we can get a count to Ruby’s. Ms. Snowflake had to cancel because of a Directors meeting that same day. We will look into having her be on the float and sit at the Fair booth. The Gift For Kids has been taken care of. The Landowner gifts have been handed out. At this time I’d like to see the raffle tickets start to be handed back in. (Money & stubs) We had a nice turnout for the Snowmobile Safety Course. We will sponsor a ride to Rock Lake again for these students when the trails open. At the time of writing this letter we have 80 members. Last year we had 86. I am hoping to have that many again or hopefully more. So if you have not renewed or know of someone that wants to join, now is the time. $20.00 for a family & $15.00 for single. You can send this to Bloomer Sno-Hawks, 1608 Queen St. Bloomer, WI 54724. Anyone that has not renewed by Jan.1st 2009 will be taken off the mailing list. Also, if you’d like to receive your newsletter by way of E-mail, please send to harleycat@bloomer.net At our Jan. Meeting we will be giving updates on our Christmas party, banner at the park, (this is up, thanks Rhon) updates on the trails and look into the on the trail wiener roast. Sec. Note: Anyone wearing their favorite snowmobile apparel will be in a drawing for prize. Hope to see you at the meeting. Robert Dec. 2008 Newsletter Meeting Dec. 5th 8:30 PM at Valley OK now don’t lie, how’s the tummy feeling after Thanksgiving? I’m sure we all had something to be thankful for. Remember, it could always be worse. Well it looks like "Ol" Man Winter may be here to stay. I’ve been seeing a lot of geese heading south, the ponds are starting to freeze over and the frost is setting in. Just ask the people that are trying to put signs in for the trails. And yes, more and more sleds coming out of storage. It’s a sign. Our Trailheads are starting to mark their sections of trails. Some are going to need to wait awhile for the crops to be taken off and for deer hunting. Hope that this will all be done and ready for when we open the trails. If anyone need more signs, post, etc. give me a call and we’ll fix you up. The trail from Trout Creek to the Pines (Leaker & Ruby’s trail) has become a funded trail. We will need to get Land Use Agreements signed from the Landowners. Damian & I will be working on this. At our November meeting we had a balance of $3,098.00 in our checking. Dean Rosenbrook gave his report on the CVSO meeting. Bob LaTour gave his report on the AWSC Work Shop with a lot of information. The meal for our January 10th X-mas party was decided on with this being prime rib & charcoal chicken (weather permitting) with the fixings. It was decided to do the door prizes the same as last year with going to area businesses for these. If you are planning on attending this please call with the number attending so we can give a count to Ruby’s. More discussion on the banner for the display for the North park. We are looking into a universal banner hoping to have this done in time for the lighting. We voted to invite Miss Snowflake to attend the X-Mas party. I have done this and she did accept. If the trails are open and she has the next day open, we’ll plan a short ride on some of our trails. If this happens, I’ll try to let everyone know and those who are interested are welcome to come along. And we’ll need one or two loaner sleds for them to ride. All 500 raffle tickets have been distributed. Please get the money and stubs back to me as soon as possible. If you feel you are not going to be able to sell these or buy them, get them back to me so I can give them to another member. Thanks for doing your share. Our membership at his time is 61. Remember that volunteers need only pay $10.00 for their dues. At the October meeting we had a balance of $3,449.00 in our checking. Not much to report from the CVSO. At our club meeting it was voted to keep the Landower gifts the same as last year and also the Appreciation/X-mas party at Ruby’s. This will be Jan. 10th 2009. Here we go again with another snowmobile season upon us. Hoping that everyone had an enjoyable summer. I know our family had an eventful summer. We went and got our self a daughter (in law). Before I forget, I want to take this time to thank everyone that helped in any way with events for the club through the summer. Other topics that were discussed at this meeting are the following. Update on the bowling party, X-mas display at the North Park, replacing our Head groomer, update of Oktoberfest, & the city trail. Our bowling party went very well with about 40 people attending. A fun time was had by all. We picked our own teams bowling the 1st game normal and the next game was bowled with our opposite hand. WOW. Door prizes were given out to the high & low scores, plus some strikes. June & July had us doing our Country/Rock Fest. Everything went well with these events. We are always trying to improve things as to keep things going smooth. So from year to year you may see some slight changes. I am taking names already for these events. Don’t wait until the last minute. I have been watching over the beer tent for the night shift. I’m thinking about giving this up or at least not to do it every night. So if there is anyone from the club that would like to give this a try, please talk to me about the details. I would still take care of getting the workers. This would be to just watch over the tent. August had us doing the Bloomer parade and fair booth. Thanks to the Chippewa Valley Snowmobile Organization for the use of the new groomer and drag and to Day’s Power Sports for use of the sleds.
